March 1, 2006
Adios, Sacramento
Hola! Great Mexico Adventure

How did we get into this?

We were RV-ing our way to British Columbia in the summer of '05 and we stopped in Redmond, Oregon to attend the Great Northwestern RV Rally. It was 3 days of dry camping in a recently mown hayfield with yappy dogs left in nearby RVs. Anyway, while we were killing an hour, we went to a sales pitch for the Fantasy RV Tours Copper Canyon Tour. After being reassured that we would not be hijacked by banditos, we took the bait and signed up. We were going to Mexico in the Spring of 07. (If you missed it, Click on "Copper Canyon." Those "links" will bring you some interesting stuff on this adventure.)

Well, here we are, departing in the a.m. of March 1, headed to Mexico via Las Vegas, Tucson and Las Cruces, NM, with lesser known stops along the way. At Las Vegas, we will leave Carly the road-dog with daughter Julie. Carly is almost 13 and doesn't want to "ruff it" in Mexico. She will take her chances in Las Vegas. We will miss patting her on the head as we wheel down the road.

We will ultimately meet up with a caravan of 20 other RVs—occupants unknown to us—and cross the border at Las Cruces, NM on March 11. From there the itinerary includes 5 travel days atop a RR flatcar, spending nights at sidings en route to Los Mochis, where we will de-train and head to Mazatlan. From there, we ferry to La Paz, go to Cabo, and then travel up Baja until we exit near Tijuana approximately April 17. 38 days of travel in Mexico "in the rig."

You are invited to return to this blog, where I will attempt to update you on the GMA (Great Mexican Adventure), thrilling and titillating you with dazzling photos, spicy dialogue and even a home-made video or two. Guaranteed to amuse and entertain you or your money gladly refunded.

So, strap on that seat belt...and don't forget the Immodium.
