Las Cruces, NM

Arrived at the Hacienda RV Resort in Las Cruces, NM, the site of the caravan gathering.
Some of the group have arrived. Temp is in the high 80s.

We are waiting to meet with Wagonmaster Larry, who will instruct us on the secret handshake. Wagonmistress Evelyn greeted us already and dropped off a load of paperwork. We will sneak into Mexico tomorrow to get necessary protocols handled before official takeoff on Sunday.
Will get the rig serviced tomorrow and load up on American gas for the last time in awhile. These necessities have nixed any possibility of a golf 'fix'. Rumor has it that there are a few fellow addicts on the trip, so maybe we'll get to play in Mexico.

On the literary page, Janice e-mailed a revised manuscript to her editor in Portland, so she has been cleared to go to Mexico. Our current 'reads' are 1776 (me) and Janice has started A Year in the World.

Before I forget, birthday greetings to blog-reader Karen Young in Sacramento who becomes an official "geezer," with "the party that will rock Sacramento" planned for tomorrow. Wish we could be there, but "have a good one" Karen, as the saying goes. (Actually, this is one of those trite phrases that makes my skin crawl, second only to "enjoy" spoken by the server at a restaurant. Gives me instant gag reflex. When you've heard your hamburger at a truck stop saluted in this manner, it's really ENOUGH. )

Little short on travel news today, so it's time for true confessions, based on an occurrence yesterday. While visiting a restroom at a woodsy campground where we had lunch (not in the restroom), I briefly peered into the murky darkness in front of and below me. I suddenly had this brief phobic episode wherein I imagined that my dark glasses would fall off my head and/or the car keys or my wallet would leap out of my pocket and disappear into the.... I slowly adjusted my dark glasses and patted my pockets to make sure that mysterious gravitational forces were not at work. I realized then that I had experienced this 'dread' many times before while visiting rudimentary 'outposts' in the forests.

Somewhere this affliction has received an official moniker. I'll have to try Google.

This is not to be confused with the "spider under the seat" or the "bee hive in the hole" that is a more common afflication at such locations. Oh well.....the heat must be getting to me.

Have a good one.......................a good WHAT?
